I've been making more new videos for my friends, Lez Zeppelin (https://lezzeppelin.com), for some upcoming shows, and took the opportunity to crack the ice on RunwayML.I generated a ton of pictures from various prompts, chose the best ones I thought had the right atmosphere, then put them together in order and had Runway do the interpolation between them.My role in this becomes more like an art director than a production artist at that point. It can give me options all day long, but only I make the decision about what makes the cut. Personally, I am completely at peace with this representing my authorial mark on this. No different than Warhol looking at tons of silk screens made by his minions, and going "Yes, no, yes, no, no, yes, no..." It's one way of working, far from the only one.This is basically a much better version of what we used to call "morphing" in the 1990s, although that was a much more cumbersome and time-consuming practice. You had to define all the key points and where they would go by hand.Anyway, to put these together and get the timing approximate for live performance, I use the original track as a guide, included here.Go see Lez Zeppelin! Music and Graphics by Frank Coleman.I took the largest print I could find of Jackson Pollock's "Summertime 9a," broke it out by color spectrum in Photoshop, exported the pieces as separate PNGs with transparent backgrounds, imported those into a virtual reality environment (Tilt Brush), built a “room” out of the pieces in 360 space, then did a fly-thru, in one unbroken five minute take, using Tilt Brush's handheld virtual camera, which saves it out as standard 720p video. So it's "shot on location" inside VR.The music came from an undeveloped song idea I wrote for Satellite Paradiso a few years ago. The nice people at Dyckman Electronics have a new Tama kit in their window, and they let me come in and blow off some steam from time to time. Nothing beats real drums, but I love all the different flavors of electronica, and Drum n Bass beats are massive fun for the drummer. Big fan of Jojo Mayer. Bear in mind, the kit is set up backwards for me (I play left-handed).
